Draft Canterbury District Local Plan: Focused consultation 2025

This focused consultation will help shape the final Draft Local Plan that we intend to publish early next year, ahead of its submission to the Government for examination.

What we're consulting on

We are inviting feedback on four key areas:

  • New draft site allocation policies
  • Changes to existing strategic site allocations
  • Gypsy and Traveller draft policies and allocations
  • Impact of the December 2024 National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) changes on Canterbury District

Important note: This consultation does not cover the whole draft Local Plan. You don't need to resubmit comments you've already sent us.

How to respond

  • Consultation period: Tuesday 9 September to Tuesday 21 October 2025

All feedback from this consultation, alongside all previous consultation responses we've received, will help to shape the final Draft Local Plan (known as the Regulation 19 stage) which we intend to publish in early 2026.

At the Regulation 19 stage, you'll be able to comment on the entire plan before it is submitted to the Government for examination.

  • Early 2026: Publication of full draft Local Plan (Regulation 19 publication)
  • Summer 2026: Submission for Government examination
