Draft Canterbury District Local Plan: Focused consultation 2025

This consultation ended on Tuesday 21 October. Thank you to all those who took part. All comments will be considered in the next stage of the draft local plan process.

This focused consultation helped shape the final Draft Local Plan that we intend to publish early next year, ahead of its submission to the Government for examination.

What we consulted on

We invited feedback on four key areas:

  • New draft site allocation policies

  • Changes to existing strategic site allocations

  • Gypsy and Traveller draft policies and allocations

  • Impact of the December 2024 National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) changes on Canterbury District

Important note: This consultation did not cover the whole draft Local Plan. Comments already sent us to us previously did not have to be resubmitted.

What happens next

All feedback from this consultation, alongside all previous consultation responses we've received, will help to shape the final Draft Local Plan (known as the Regulation 19 stage) which we intend to publish in early 2026.

At the Regulation 19 stage, you'll be able to comment on the entire plan before it is submitted to the Government for examination.

  • Early 2026: Publication of full draft Local Plan (Regulation 19 publication)

  • Summer 2026: Submission for Government examination
